Mac file management tools: choose by task
Disk analysis, duplicate photos, app removal, batch renaming, media conversion and OCR solve different jobs.
Disk analyzer or disk space visualizer
Use disk analysis when you need to find which folders occupy space. Start with macOS Storage settings, then choose a visualizer if you need a folder-level view. A large file is not automatically safe to delete.
Duplicate file finder or duplicate photo finder
For photos inside your Photos library, review the Duplicates collection in Photos. For videos and documents across folders, look for a duplicate finder that compares content and lets you preview matches. Matching filenames alone do not prove two files are identical.
App uninstaller and app leftovers
When removing an app, check its developer’s uninstall instructions first. A tool for leftover files should show which files belong to that app before removal. Do not remove shared support folders simply because their names look related.
Batch rename files and organize folders
Finder can rename multiple selected files using replacement text, added text or a name format. Try a small selection before changing a whole collection. File organizer is an ambiguous search phrase; batch rename files Mac or organize files Mac describes this software task more clearly.
Batch image converter and video compressor
Preview can convert images between supported file types; opening several images in one window lets you select them together. QuickTime Player can export a video at an available resolution. Keep originals, check output quality and choose specialist software when you need a batch queue or a specific format.
Batch OCR and PDF to Excel
OCR extracts text from images; PDF to Excel needs to preserve table rows and columns. They are not the same task. Test a representative document first and check numbers and merged cells against the source. For sensitive documents, consider a local workflow rather than uploading files.
